Where do I get graphic packs?

Some are available on the Travian server. At your Player profile, click on "Graphic pack" - there you will find a list of graphic packs. You can find more graphic packs in the Travian forum "Graphic packs, Maps, and Add-On Projects". You can also find Graphic packs on line, however you should only use trusted graphic packs. Another option is to create your own.

How do I install a graphic pack?

Internet Explorer

• Download it.
• Extract (unpack) the files from the .zip into a folder.
• At your profile click on graphic pack.
• Type (or copy and paste) the exact path of the graphic pack folder (that contains the stylesheet and img folder) into the user-defined graphic pack box.
• In Internet Explorer 7 or later, you will need to add the URL(s) of the Travian world(s) you want to use a Graphic pack on to the "Trusted sites" list (Tools->Internet Options->Security->Trusted Sites->Sites).
• Click on OK.
• If it shows "The graphic pack has been found." then just click save and you should be done. If not, check you got the path to the Graphic pack folder correct (it is the folder that contains the stylesheet [travian.css] and the img folder).

Firefox 1.0.x or older

Type about:config in the address bar. Search for security.checkloaduri (you can begin to type security.che... in the filter field to get there faster.) The value is true. Double-click on the line. The value changes to false. Now local files can be read. Continue at Internet Explorer.

Firefox 1.5.x or newer

Search for the Firefox profile folder on your hard drive, e.g. (12345678 stands for eight random digits and letters):

• Windows (other versions than Vista): "C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles12345678.default\"
• Windows Vista: "C:\Users\Your name\AppData\Roaming\MozillaFirefox\Profiles\12345678.default" (You may need to search for the folder as it is may be hidden.)
• Linux: "/home/username/.mozilla/firefox/12345678.default/"
• OS X: /Username/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/12345678.default/

Download this file, extract the user.js file and move it to the Firefox profile folder mentioned above. Restart Firefox. Now local files can be read. Now follow the instructions below:

• Download it.

Opera

Not possible, choose one of the next two options.

If it's not working or you are using Opera 9, upload the graphic pack to your web space and enter that path, starting with http:// instead of file:// of course.

Local web server

A somewhat more complicated alternative is to install a local web server, e.g. Apache, and run it whenever you are playing Travian. The path starts with http://localhost/ in that case.

Problems

CSS incorrect / Graphics showing, but displaced

Check if the stylesheet is names travian.css (en3.css for Travian 3) and rename if necessary.

You should also try clearing your cookies and browser cache if graphics appear displaced and afterwards retry to activate the graphic pack.

I accidentally clicked activate and now can't see any graphics.

Go to http://s1.travian.com/spieler.php?s=4 (if you are not playing on s1, change the server name appropriately), check the box in front of "standard graphic pack" and click OK. Then check above what you might have done wrong (incorrect path, didn't activate local graphics in Firefox, incorrect .css file etc.).

Alternatively you can delete the cookies and browser cache. How exactly you accomplish the above depends on what browser you are using. Please refer to your browser's help function if necessary. Furthermore here is a useful page for you.

Creating your own

How do I create my own graphic pack?

Download the classic graphic pack and modify the images with a program of your choice, e.g. Paint Shop Pro (costs money), Adobe Photoshop (costs lots of money) or GIMP (free). To create animated gifs, you need additional software, there are many, just Google for them.

If you'd like to change the colour or the background colour, you need to modify the .css file (Stylesheet). You can learn CSS at w3schools.

How do I publish my graphic pack?

Pack the images into a zip file and upload it. There are plenty of free web space providers, e.g. Lycos.

Then introduce your graphic pack in the Travian forum in the category Graphic packs and own projects. Choose a suitable name and add a few images or small screen shots.

Remember that you must not take images from other people without their permission. Especially, please don't use images from computer games or other browser games, the owner might sue you.
